When it comes to having a realistic home renovation, there are various considerations. You need to consider your budget, which rooms you need to renovate, and how much time you have to put into the project. Having a plan in advance can keep the project from devolving into chaos — Real Property International has some tips to get you going below.

Make a Home Renovation Checklist

Start your remodel with a checklist. Your budget should be the first concern. Determine how much you can spend on a remodel. Without a budget, you can’t determine the type of renovations possible for your home. Once you have your budget, look for inspiration. Determine the rooms that you want to remodel and think about when you want to have the project finished.

Once you have an idea of the type of project you’re interested in, whether a kitchen remodel, home office renovation or complete home overhaul, look for a contractor who can help you with the design options. General contractors have the skills and training to take on most jobs, including large-scale projects. Find someone who has experience in the type of renovations you want. Decide on the common elements that you should include in renovations. For example, think about roofing, interior design, and lighting.

Clear Your Space

Before you can start renovations, you have to clear out your space. Consider renting a storage unit to store belongings in the meantime. Many storage centers offer discounts to new customers.

In Florida, a 5×5 storage unit may cost as low as $20 a month or as high as $75 a month. When choosing storage, consider how many belongings you have and how long you need to store them. Some units do not have climate control. They will not have HVAC or heating to protect delicate belongings. You may want a climate-controlled unit with security protection if you have valuable pieces.

Renovation projects can be chaotic. It’s better to declutter ahead of time rather than having to move furniture and items around your house. Before you begin, sift through any bookshelves or cupboards and determine what you have to pack. If you have frequently used items, use transparent storage boxes to store them and label them clearly.

Renovate the Home Office

Consider different home office ideas. Your office should be a place that inspires you to stay motivated and on task. For artists, colorful home offices may help inspire new ideas, whereas an office where you meet clients may need comfortable furniture and warm colors.

Also, home offices can double as guest rooms. Consider purchasing a sleeper sofa or ottoman to store bedding for guests. In addition, add a full-length mirror to the office space for guests visiting. You need to think about convertibility when it comes to having a room with dual purposes.

Consider a Warranty

According to the experts, a home warranty guarantees the costs of repairs and replacements for appliances, HVAC systems, and plumbing. A warranty could be beneficial if you have new appliances or home systems. Before deciding on whether you need a warranty, check your inspection report for any red flags and find out if there are any existing warranties on your appliances.

Home renovations should begin with checklists. Come up with a list of ideas before you meet with a contractor. Determine home design, office renovations, and potential storage while working on renovation plans. Additionally, choose a warranty if necessary.
